Top 5 Worst Banners In Sports

Growing up as a Philly fan (yes, all 4 major sports) I have seen some pretty nasty signs & banners that fans brought in to stadiums & arenas. I remember once seeing a “Dallas Sucks” banner hung across the famous 700 level in the old Veterans Stadium on the news. The picture to the left show fans celebrating (sarcastically) the 10,000 loss in Phillies history. No, there was no banner later hung up in the stadium.

Sometimes, however, it’s not just the fans that bring in the signs and banners that makes you scratch your head, it’s the franchise too. Here’s a compilation of 5 odd signs that I’ve seen around sports. Enjoy.

  • The Patriots 16-0 regular season banner
(sorry Pats, you didn’t win the big one therefore not a perfect season!)

  • Washington Mystics leading attendance “Champions” WNBA banner
(really? Really? REALLY?)

  • Chicago Bears vs. New Orleans Saints – Jan. 2007 playoff game. Bears fans hang up a banner saying, “Bears Finishing What Katrina Started”
(Ouch…Bears ended up winning that game too. Ouch again.)

  • UNC Basketball 1924 National Championship Banner
(There was no such thing back then. See Wikipedia)

  • University of Duke “Highest Graduation Rate in Division I Football” banner
(Yup. And that should be the absolute only banner they have in that football stadium)
